Known for her work with global stars including Victoria Beckham and former Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, Mungai is now turning her focus to storytelling through travel.

Her upcoming show, Travelling with Dolly, promises to take viewers beyond borders, offering a fresh perspective on global cultures while centring the experiences of Kenyans in the diaspora, particularly in the UK.

A show inspired by a life of travel Mungai describes the programme as an immersive journey shaped by her extensive travel experience across more than 56 countries.

“Viewers will be able to experience the world through my eyes on Travelling with Dolly… It’s about making the world feel accessible,” she said.

Having grown up in England, she notes that her exposure to travel from an early age influenced the concept.

“I realised that not everyone has the opportunity to see the world in the same way, and I wanted to create something that allows people, especially back home, to experience it through me,” she explained.

Human stories at the core Unlike traditional travel shows that focus on celebrity guests, Travelling with Dolly takes a more grounded approach.

The show prioritises everyday encounters, spotlighting ordinary individuals whose stories bring destinations to life.

“The show isn’t guest-driven, it’s people-driven. It focuses on everyday people: a café owner, a waitress, someone you meet along the way,” Mungai said.

“These real, unfiltered interactions are what truly bring each place to life and make the experience more relatable for viewers.”

This people-first storytelling approach aims to create a deeper emotional connection with audiences, making each destination feel both authentic and accessible.

Shaped by global experience Mungai’s career in high-end fashion has played a key role in shaping her creative vision.

Working with high-profile clients has refined her attention to detail and presentation style, skills she now brings to television.

“Working with high-profile individuals has shaped my attention to detail and how I present things. It’s taught me how to create something polished, while still keeping it authentic and true to my voice,” she noted.

Her storytelling is also deeply personal, rooted in a lifelong curiosity about the world.

She likens travel to an endless journey of discovery, saying it is “a book that never ends, the more you learn, the more you want to discover.”

A personal journey and lasting impact

Mungai credits her mother for instilling her love for travel and independence from a young age.

Early experiences, including solo trips between the UK and Kenya and a formative visit to China, helped shape her worldview.

Looking ahead, she hopes the show will expand perspectives and inspire curiosity among viewers.
