Wizkid named Best African act at MTV European Music Awards

On Sunday, November 14, 2021, the 2021 MTV European Music Awards (EMAs) were held on at the László Papp Budapest Sports Arena in Budapest, Hungary. It was the first time that Hungary hosted the awards show.

At the show, Grammy-winning Nigerian superstar, Wizkid became the sixth Nigerian to be named Best African Act. It was also the seventh time a Nigerian would win the award. The award was won by Burna Boy in 2019.

When nominations were announced, Justin Bieber led with eight while Doja Cat and Lil Nas X were both tied, with six nominations. BTS carted home the most awards with four, including the maiden Best K-Pop Category.
