Kenya Sevens star Oscar Ouma has provided a cheeky response to Shujaa’s current struggles in the World Rugby Sevens Series.

Kenya are currently on the brink of relegation after failing to win any of their group games yet again during the ninth leg of the Series in Singapore to leave them in danger of losing their core status.

Shujaa started their Singapore campaign with a 26-19 loss to France before a lack of concertation saw them throw away a lead to fall narrowly to USA, who beat them 21-19, and ended their group campaign with a 33-17 reverse to Uruguay.

Damian Mcgrath’s men salvaged some pride on Sunday with a 28-14 victory over Canada in the ninth-place quarter-final before thrashing Japan 40-7 in the semi-final to set up a playoff meeting with Spain.

Ouma, who is not part of the team in Singapore, seems to have gotten tired of questions regarding the team’s poor performance from disgruntled fans, and used the now infamous response from Tusker FC coach Robert Matano as his response.

A visibly angry Matano told a journalist: “I don’t know, don't ask me nonsense also” in response to a question regarding his team’s title chances after Tusker conceded a last-minute goal to Gor Mahia in April 2022.

Ouma has been part of the Kenya Sevens set up for close to a decade, playing a vital role in their success over the years, with his tenacity, strength and pace endearing him to fans all over the world.

He has, however, been slowed down by injuries and only returned to action with his club Nakuru RFC in January. Like the rest of the fans, Ouma is feeling the pain, having watched Shujaa win just two group games in nine legs, something that was unimaginable not long ago.

With an 11th place seemingly out of reach ahead of the 10th leg in Toulouse where final positions for next season will be decided, Kenya look set to feature in the more ruthless four-team relegation playoff involving teams placed between 12th and 14th, alongside the Challenger Series 2023 winners, at the 11th and final round of the Series in London, to decide the side that will make it 12 teams next season.
