State House Chief of Staff Nzioka Waita will competing in the Safari Rally World Championships that will kick off on Friday.

Mr Waita will be taking on St Mary's School alumni, one time classmate to President Uhuru Kenyatta and six-time winner of the Kenya Rally Championship, Mr Ian Duncan.

State House Spokesperson Kanze Dena-Mararo confirmed that Waita will be driving the number 60 car as he makes his comeback to the sport after several years of absence.

The State House spokesperson also conveyed President Kenyatta's commendation to the national football team, Harambee Stars, who lost an AFCON match to Senegal on Monday night.

Kanze added that President Kenyatta will be flagging off the event at the Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani, on July 5 at 11am.

Chairman of World Rally Championship Safari Rally Project, Phineas Kimathi, stated that the big names competing in this year's competition will give the event the much needed impetus to grow.

"When professional teams show interest in participating, it really gives us encouragement and hope of getting the WRC status next year. I am happy with the news," he stated.
