About Hassan Omar Hassan

He is a lawyer and has a track record in the reform movement in Kenya. He is also a past a Commissioner and Vice Chairperson of the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights (KNCHR), a constitutional commission and the lead government agency in the promotion and protection of Human Rights in Kenya.

Currently as Senator, Hassan is the Vice Chairperson of the Senate's Sessional Committee on County Public Accounts and Investments and a member of the Standing Committee on Legal Affairs and Human Rights. He is also a member of the Sessional Committee on Devolved Governments. Hassan has served in various Adhoc Committees of the Senate.

Sen. Hassan is the sponsor of the Preservation of Human Dignity and Enforcement of Economic and Social Rights Bill, 2015, which seeks to establish a framework law on the enforcement of Article 43 of the Kenya’s Constitution that seeks to address the question of Inequality and Social Justice in Kenya.

Hassan is the Secretary General of the Wiper Democratic Movement Party - Kenya, one of four parties that make up the opposition’s National Super Alliance (NASA).

He has been a key driver of the Okoa Kenya Referendum campaign which sought to reform certain areas of Kenya's constitution principally aimed at safeguarding devolution, reform of the electoral commission and ensuring equity and diversity in government appointments.

Hassan is also Secretary of the Coast Senate Group (CSG).
