Governor Mike Sonko Impeached

Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko has been impeached by the Nairobi County Assembly.

The Nairobi Governor was impeached on Thursday on accusations of gross misconduct, violation of the constitution and abuse of office.

88 out of 122 Members of the Nairobi County Assembly voted to support his ouster.

Governor Sonko's impeachment motion was tabled at the County Assembly by Minority Leader Michael Ogada.

Sonko was expected to join the proceeding via Zoom, where he was to be given a chance to defend himself, but instead chose not to do it, as he hosted a section of MCAs in Kwale.
