The family is expected to hold prayers at Masjid Mandhri in Kibokoni after the 4pm prayers before the burial near Fort Jesus.

Many went on social media to condole with Omar and his family for the loss. Some remembered the Mama Aisha as a warm-hearted and caring person.

President Uhuru Kenyatta also mourned with the family stating: "It is with profound shock and a deep sense of loss that I have learnt of the death of Mama Aisha Abdillahi Suleiman Mazrui, mother of former Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar Sarai. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends and relatives".

It is not yet clear how the former Senator’s mother died.
