Ex-CEO arrested immediately after landing at JKIA in connection with dams scandal

Former Kerio Valley Development Authority (KVDA) Managing Director David Kimosop has been arrested at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) as he attempted to return into the country.

Mr Kimosop is among the suspects DPP Noordin Haji had named on Monday to have been involved in the illegal payment of Sh19 billion to Italian company CMC di Ravenna.

Mr Kimosop evaded arrest on Monday because he was on a trip to Kinshasa, DRC. His lawyers told Magistrate Douglas Ogot that he would return in the weekend.

He was the only high profile personality named in the scandal who was yet to be arrested.

"Mr. David Kipchumba Kimosop the MD of KVDA who is wanted for corruption charges relating to Arror & Kimwarer Dams scam was early today arrested at JKIA on arrival from Tanzania following a STOP order placed by DCI. He is currently in lawful custody awaiting arraignment," a statement from DCI read.

Sacked from KVDA

Kimosop was sacked from KVDA in May this year but he protested the decision by the KVDA board vowing to stay in office longer.

The board had highlighted a number of corruption accusations that had coloured the former MD's term since he assumed office in 2012. One of the cases included the Arror and Kimwarer dams projects.

He also appeared in Parliament to justify the plans for the two projects.
