Explosion leaves 2 seriously injured in Machakos

Two people have been seriously injured following an unfortunate explosion that occurred at Jericho village in Machakos County.

The two were reported to have been brewing chang'aa, an illicit brew, when the explosion happened.

The boiler they were using during the process allegedly exploded unexpectedly, the cause of the explosion is yet to be established.

The injured brewers are also said to have immediately gone into hiding, fearing arrest in connection with the illegal activity that got them injured.

Yatta DCC Emma Kibaara recently launched a crackdown against the brewers after residents protested the prevalence of the practice.

The boiling process is normally aimed at collecting a pure distillate which is then sold at a an affordable price.
