The switch has been scheduled to mark their transition out of the APS arm of the police service into the Kenya Police Service arm as part of the latest police service reforms.

23,900 officers are expected to be issued with the new uniforms in the coming weeks with the remaining officers under APS reassigned to the Critical Infrastructure Protection Unit (CIPU).

All Chief's camps to be converted to Police Posts

Another major change being rolled out by the police service is the conversion of all chief's camps in police posts.

This means that citizens will be able to access all government services under one roof, a chief will be present on location as well as an officer in charge of a police post.

AP camps that are not near a police station are also being converted to modern police posts complete with holding facilities.

The changes are aimed at streamlining the command system within the National Police Service such that orders flow from one point at the top as opposed to having APs, KPS and DCI officers receiving orders from three different commands.

The 23,900 APs will now receive orders from Sub-county Commanders (former OCPD) in their new posts.
