Kalonzo pleads with Raila over upcoming election

Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has pleaded with his ODM counterpart Raila Odinga ahead of the Embakasi South by-election.

Speaking on Tuesday, Kalonzo asked the ODM party to withdraw its candidate from the race to allow the Wiper candidate to reclaim his seat.

Kalonzo noted that the Embakasi seat was the only one the party had managed to acquire following the August 2017 General election.

He urged the Orange party to step down from the race in the spirit of the March 9 handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and the ODM party leader.

Irshad Sumra, ODM party canadidate

Julius Mawathe lost the seat after the Supreme Court ruled in favour of his ODM rival Irshad Sumra.

Mawathe was handed a direct nomination by the Wiper party leader to contest for the competitive seat.

Politicians allied to the Orange party vowed to quash their Nasa affiliates in the Embakasi contest.

Ruaraka MP TJ Kajwang' advised Kalonzo not to field a candidate if at all he wanted Wiper to continue working with ODM.

Jubilee Secretary-General Raphael Tuju announced that the ruling party would not be fielding a candidate for the by-election.
