For dedicated exercisers, building up a super hero-esque physique might be all about ascending to new heights. To get there, though, sometimes it pays to stay low to the ground.

You can use simple, floor-level exercises like the bear crawl to activate your core muscles and hone your body control and spinal stability, which can help to make tougher multi-joint movements easier. Trainer Don Saladino uses bear crawls to challenge his superhero actor clients like Ryan Reynolds and Sebastian Stan to concentrate on the small, subtle movements that help to make every part of a workout better.

To perform the bear crawl, all you need is some space on the gym floor. Just take a spot on the ground and get ready to tap into your primal instincts to get moving.

To start, crawl backwards and forwards for 10 yards at a time. Use bear crawls as a warmup mobility exercise before a workout or as a core move in your ab circuit. For more superhero-body building moves, you can check out all of our Superhero Fit Workouts or Saladino's full program .
