The Rock Calls to ‘Normalize Equality’ in Moving Instagram Tribute to George Floyd

People around the world are reacting in different ways in dealing with the death of George Floyd , the 46-year-old man who was killed by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin on May 25. Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, the movie star and WWE legend, expressed how he felt to his 185 million Instagram followers in a lengthy tribute to Floyd that made calls for both accountability and equality.

"These officers will be charged, Im positive of that. Held accountable," he wrote. "But then wheres the greater accountability? The leadership to healing. More importantly, the leadership to EQUALITY. We ultimately win when we can normalize equality."

The Rock's lengthy post also made a point of saying Chauvin's "intention is to kill" and that his fellow officers simply stood by instead of putting a stop to it. "Cop code must become moral code," he wrote.

Past few days Ive been stunned trying make sense of George Floyds death. The video. The plea for breath. The callous response. The racism. The killing. This is our ongoing disease. Ive had cops in my family. Good men. And theres a cop code, granting you the authority to use force if your life is in danger. But when a man is handcuffed, on the ground, no longer a threat, with your brothers in arms standing around watching and he struggles to say, please I cant breathe when your knee is on his neck.. not his back, but his neck - cutting off his air. Cop code must become moral code. Ethics code. HUMANITY code. Knowing that if you dont ease up, then that man is going to die. So when you decide to not ease up, your intention is to kill. And thats what this was. George Floyd, said officer I cant breathe as he struggled for air. He said these words a total of 15 times. Not once. Not twice. 15 times. These officers will be charged, Im positive of that. Held accountable. But then wheres the greater accountability? The leadership to healing. More importantly, the leadership to EQUALITY.
