Date for Magoha's interview with MPs announced

Professor George Magoha will appear before Parliament to be vetted for the Education Cabinet Secretary position next week.

Parliament issued a notice in the local dailies on Wednesday asking the nominee to appear with a number of listed documents on Thursday March 14, 2019.

The man with a 90-page CV was asked to also bring along clearance certificates from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and Credit and Reference Bureau (CRB).

Members of the public have also been asked to submit any affidavits with cause as to why the professor may not be suitable for the position.

"Pursuant to Section 6 (9) of the Public Appointments (Parliamentary Approval) Act 2011, the Committee now invites interested members of the public to submit any representation by written statement on oath (affidavit) with supported evidence contesting the suitability of the said nominee for appointment to office as Cabinet Secretary for Education," the notice read in part.

Magoha hailed as perfect fit for Education docket

Prof. Magoha has been hailed as the right pick for the cabinet appointment given his experience in education.

He is also celebrated for bringing reforms in every office he has held especially at the Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC).

“Everything that I touch with these hands is blessed and goes to the end.

“We sat together and agreed that there was going to be a multi-sector approach to the management of examinations.

“This has been provided. If you are to judge us, judge us with what can be measured,” he stated during a past interview.

After vetting, the Parliamentary Committee may recommend the nominee for the position after which he will be free to take the oath of office and take up the cabinet position from Amb. Amina Mohamed.
