Sifuna will succeed Ababu Namwamba who resigned in July 2016.

The position has in the past two years been held on an interim capacity by Deputy Secretary General Agnes Zani.

Zani will now deputise Sifuna, alongside Busia Woman Representative Florence Mutua.

The outspoke lawyer's appointment was made by the orange party's National Governing Council (NGC), following a meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) on Friday.

Apart from representing NASA operatives in Court, the secretary general is also politically experience having unsuccessfully contested the Nairobi senatorial seat as well as the Kanduyi MP's seat.
