Among the dead were two children while several others were rushed to hospital with serious injuries.

According to Imenti South OCPD John Cheruiyot, the matatu which was carrying 11 people at the time of the accident collided head-on with a speeding pick-up.

The injured were rushed to Consolata Nkubu hospital.

The matatu was ferrying passengers to Maua while the pickup was ferrying miraa to Embu when the crash happened at Mwichiune.

In June, 4 people died when a lorry carrying fertilizer collided with a matatu at Kariene in Central Imenti, Meru County.

The accident also left 7 people, including a baby with injuries and are admitted to Meru Level Five hospital and Kariene hospitals.
