An egg was reportedly picked at Sudi Stadium during a Football Kenya Federation Premier League match on Saturday.

The said egg – found in a game that the home side went on to win 1-0 - had a number of names of Nzoia Sugar players.

The loss saw Tusker drop to second place, and Gor Mahia, after their win over Police FC, reclaimed the top post.

This Sudi Stadium match started late after its kickoff had to be delayed due to heavy rains in Bungoma.

Meanwhile, the incident comes after AFC Leopards head coach Patrick Aussems referred to his Tusker counterpart Robert Matano as a ‘Juju man’.

Aussems claims are currently a matter within the corridors of justice after Matano sued the Belgian. Aussems took to Twitter to make the allegations after AFC Leopards were beaten – courtesy of a late goal at Nyayo Stadium – by the reigning league champions.

Superstitions and magical beliefs are not new in the Kenyan soccer scene. There have been multiple claims that various teams employ this tactic in order to beat rivals.

There are claims from players donning lucky boots, jerseys, and shin guards, planting animal body parts on the pitch, sprinkling snake blood, skipping over corpses, and smearing themselves with concoctions before shaking hands with their opponents.

The Mashemeji Derby – Kenya’s most famous football rivalry between Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards – has also seen a number of superstitious claims made against it.

The animosity between fans has not helped the matter, as such allegations will always emerge of one team using witchcraft and superstitious rituals to win.

Ingwe and K’Ogalo are sometimes seen entering the stadium using different routes, believing that opponents have already contaminated some routes.
