Acting on intelligence, security agencies recovered several rolls of Geogrid used in making the country’s biggest infrastructure project.

A statement from the DCI read in part that “#RECOVERED|Standard Gauge Railway material(several rolls of Geogrid) worth over one million shillings was recovered at the home of Mr. Martin Matu, the MCA #Naromoru. The recover brings to the surface wanton plunder at the country’s largest infrastructure project.

This comes barely a day after SGR unveiled its passenger number 2000000 in pomp and color after close to a year of operation.

The project has overcome many challenges during its first year in operation with conservationists and media reports indicating that at least 2 lions and 7 buffaloes have been killed on the tracks.

Reports of harassment and discrimination of Kenyan workers who are underpaid compared to their Chinese counterparts also surfaced prompting government agencies to launch investigations into the claims.

The public was also not amused by the signs done in Chinese despite the high cost that was way above the initial cost.
