Da 5 Bloods Cast Is a Mix of Old Spike Lee Friends and New Superstar Talent

2) Clarke Peters - Otis This is Peters' second go-around with Lee, after previously working together on the 2012 film Red Hook Summer. Here, he plays Otis, who has an interesting past in Vietnam that the film tactfully explores as something of a B-plot. Peters is a master of these sorts of nuanced and layered roles; he's best known for playing Lester Freamon in The Wire, but has also appeared in HBO shows like Trem, His Dark Materials, and Show Me A Hero. He's also appeared in movies like John Wick and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Netflix

3) Isiah Whitlock Jr. - Melvin Whitlock is a true Lee favoriteDa 5 Bloods marks the 6th feature film (and 7th overall; he appeared in an episode of Lee's Netflix version of She's Gotta Have It) collaboration between actor and director. As Melvin, Whitlock plays the character lightest in tone of anyhe brings a lot of laughs and good times to his friends in the movie and viewers at home alike. Outside of his work with Lee, Whitlock is best known primarily for two thingshis work in The Wire, where he played Clay Davis, and his unforgettable catch phrase: " Sheeeeiiiiiiiiiiiiit ." 4) Norm Lewis - Eddie Lewis is primarily a theater actor, but he has worked with Lee before, appearing in a second season episode of She's Gotta Have It on Netflix. In Da 5 Bloods, he plays Eddie, who is seen in the group as the most successful in their post-war life, owning his own car dealership. He's a Tony nominee (in 2012, for Porgy and Bess) and is known for originating the role of King Triton in The Little Mermaid on Broadway in 2007. He was also the first Black man to ever star in The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway. Netflix

5) Chadwick Boseman - Stormin' Norman Holloway This is Boseman 's first go-around with Spike Lee, and the two manage to work some magic together. As fallen squad leader Stormin' Norman, Boseman appears in flashbacks as a positive, feel-good, encouraging figure. He's a true leader and someone that the rest of the crew look up toand always miss after he dies in combat. You know Boseman. A true A-lister, his career reached new heights in 2018 when he took on the role of T'Challa in Marvel's Black Panther after being introduced as the character in Captain America: Civil War. He's since appeared in the role two more times, in both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Even aside from his work in the MCU, Boseman is a bona fide movie star, having played Jackie Robinson in 42, James Brown in Get On Up, and Vontae Mack in cult classic football movie Draft Day. 6) Jonathan Majors - David This is the first go-around with Spike Lee for Jonathan Majors , who plays Paul's son, David. David is a teacher and former track star at Morehouse College, and joins the crew for their adventure. Lee told MH that Majors' "has the goods," and his resum of work, past, present, and future, certainly reflect that. Even outside of his great work with Lee in Da 5 Bloods, he's already appeared in the A24 independent hit The Last Black Man in San Francisco. Later this summer, he'll lead the new HBO series Lovecraft Country, produced by Jordan Peele and J.J. Abrams, and some time next year he'll appear in The Harder They Fall, an all-Black Western that co-stars Idris Elba and Regina King and will be produced by Jay Z. Clearly, this is someone to keep an eye on. Netflix

7) Mlanie Thierry - Hedy Thierry plays Hedy, the leader of a group that disables land mines in Vietnam who meets David when the group spends a night at a bar before their adventure really begins. It's her first time working with Lee. Thierry is a French-born actress, and much of her work has been based in French film and television. American audiences may remember her from the 2008 film Babylon A.D., when she starred alongside Vin Diesel. Netflix

8) Paul Walter Hauser - Simon Da 5 Bloods marks the second film that Paul Walter Hauser has done with Lee, after also appearing as a white supremacist in 2018's Blackkklansman. Here he plays Simon, a friend of Hedy's and member of the mine-disabling team. Hauser is one of the most exciting upcoming actors in the industry, after appearing last year as the titular role in Clint Eastwood's Richard Jewell and in 2017's I, Tonya. He's got a role alongside Emma Stone in the upcoming Cruella De Vil prequel, Cruella. Netflix

9) Jasper Pkknen - Seppo Just like Hauser, Da 5 Bloods marks Pkknen's second go-around with Lee after also playing a white supremacist in Blackkklansman. He also plays a member of the mine-disabling team. Pkknen, who hails from Finland, primarily appears in Finnish films and shows. But he's also appeared in some programming here; aside from Blackkklansman, he also had a key role as Halfdan the Black on Vikings. Netflix

10) Y. Lan - Tin Luu Da 5 Bloods is only the third role for Y. Lan (according to IMDB), after appearing in Ip Man 3 and 21 and a Wake-Up. As Tin Luu, she plays a dual role for the Bloods: she's their guide to cashing out the gold they are seeking, and also a former lover of Otis'. Netflix

11) Veronica Ngo - Hanoi Hannah Da 5 Bloods marks Veronica Ngo's first movie with Spike Lee, but she's got plenty of experience with auteur directors. Rian Johnson, who directed her in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, recently g ave her a shout out with a Tweet . She also appeared in Netflix's Will Smith vehicle Bright and action movies like Furie. As Hanoi Hannah , Ngo plays a significant part in her limited role in the film; she represents the propoganda broadcast through which the Bloods learn that Martin Luther King Jr. has been assassinated. 12) Johnny Nguyen - Vinh Nguyen plays a small role in Da 5 Bloods as Vinh, the man guiding the Bloods through their journey in Vietnam, and he perfectly sells it. Nguyen has appeared in small roles in action movies like Cradle 2 The Grave (with DMX and Jet Li), but he's also done a lot of work on stunts for even bigger movies. In that capacity, he's worked on Spider-Man, X-Men: First Class, and Jarhead, among many others. Netflix

13) Jean Reno - Desroache Reno is a longtime character actor, but Da 5 Bloods marks his first time working with Lee. As Desroache, he plays the contact that Tin Luu connects the guys with as a way to cash the gold they're looking to collect from the war zone. Reno, a native frenchman, is best known for his title role in the hitman movie Leon: The Professional. He's mostly appeared in French films, but should be a familiar face to audiences regardless; he's shown up in major blockbusters like Godzilla, The Da Vinci Code, and Ronin through the years. Netflix
