Owino told the court that officers allowed strangers in his cell, including street children who harassed and tortured him throughout the night.

The newly elected MP spoke when he was arraigned in court for allegedly causing grievous harm to a voter in his constituency, among other offences.

The MP has been a guest of the state since Monday when he was arrested after making remarks that supposedly undermined the presidency.

The former student leader was released on bail on Wednesday before being re-arrested shortly after.
