Facts from Fiction

So in all these allegations and counter-allegations where does the truth lie?

Ruto has indeed in the past fought over allegations of land grabbing.

In 2012, the DP was sued by Andrew Muteshi, an internally displaced person, for allegedly grabbing his 100 acre piece of land following the violence in 2007-2008.

The court orded Ruto to returned the piece of land to Muteshi and paid him a sum of Sh5 million in August 2013.

After returning the parcel, Ruto was cleared of the matter.

About grabbing school land! Well Weston Hotel which the DP owns, is accused of sitting on a piece of grabbed Kenya Civil Aviation land. In January last year, pupils from Langata road primary school engaged with police in a fierce battle after a wall cutting across the playground was erected by a private developer.

The school sits adjacent to Weston Hotel and the hotel was planning to expand.

Charity Ngilu, the Cabinet secretary of lands then, named Nairobi businessmen Mandip Singh Amrit, Manjit Singh Amrit, Harbans Singh Amrit and Kamal Prakash Amrit as the owners of the company linked to the controversial acquisition of Lang’ata Road Primary School land.

However, it is believed that a powerful public figure associated with the businessmen was behind the attempt to grab the school land.
