Addressing the public during Mashujaa Day celebrations in Kakamega, a visibly angry President Kenyatta warned the CS that he will find himself in problems over the runaway corruption in his ministry with the most recent maize scandal.

"…Na ndipo nilisema Waziri wa Kilimo bwana Kiunjuri, tujuwe ya kwamba sasa mchezo imeisha. Tafuta hawa watu wanakula mali ya wengine utuletee tufunge ama wewe mwenyewe utakuwa na shida katika hiyo mambo." Uhuru said.

(…It is for this reason that I said (to) CS for Agriculture Mr. Kiunjuri that time for games is up. Search for those profiting from the sweat of others and bring them so that we can jail them or else you will find yourself in trouble over the same issues)

The President decried the runaway corruption in the ministry which has seen unscrupulous traders pocket millions of shillings after colluding with government officials while genuine farmers languish in poverty and are unable to educate their children.

"Hatuwezi kuwa kila saa pesa inatolewa na inakulwa na wachache (We cannot continue with this trend of public funds being released every often only for it to be pocketed by a few must stop.)" He added.
