Under the new policy, the functions of the Traffic Department will be mandated to any police officer from the various units.

Police station commanders will also take charge of traffic matters in the areas where they have command, in addition to their routine duties.

The traffic officers had base commanders who had the rank of Chief Inspector – the same rank held by the station bosses.

The base commanders will now be given new assignments in the police service.

The traffic police department has faced a huge challenge over rampant corruption and incompetence that has negatively affected its reputation among Kenyans.

Boinet’s reforms are expected to increase efficiency in the department and reduce the level of corruption on Kenyan roads.
