On August 3 workers hired by the Chinese Firm operating the train at the Syokimau terminal  threatened to boycott service delivery come next week if their salaries are not paid on time.

According to the workers who operate under the China Road and Bridge Corporation, their July Salaries have been delayed.

Reports also indicate that the workers have not been given contracts despite started working with the firm in April.

The firm has however blamed the delay on refurbishment of its salary payment system and reviewing of bank account details of workers hired in June and July.

“Because the newly added Kenyan staff are numerous, their personal bank account information collection needs a great deal of time” a statement from the firm said

The Kenya Railways Managing director Atanas Maina at one time admitted that SGR workers have been working contracts because the Chinese firm asked for more time to prepare the same.

The SGR workers have been working for a period of six months on probation, earning between Sh14000 to Sh35,000 Monthly.

Despite the Protests, the train heading to Mombasa left Nairobi at exactly 9:00am.
