Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong has surprised many by asking President Uhuru Kenyatta and NASA leader Raila Odinga to form a coalition government instead of battling out in court.
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) announced Kenyatta President-elect after the August 8 elections; however Odinga has contested the result at the Supreme Court.
Speaking during his swearing-in ceremony in Busia County, Ojaamong said the country’s unity was at risk and appealed for the two to come to a consensus and share power.
"I call upon Kenyatta and Odinga to sit down and come with a united grand government instead of heading to the court because it will tear our nation further," Ojaamomg said.
The Governor also appealed for the incoming government to also include politicians who lost in the polls for the sake of growth and unity of the country.
Following the contested 2007 general elections, former President Mwai Kibaki was prevailed upon by the international community to form a Grand Coalition Government with his main challenger Odinga who was named Prime Minister under the new set-up.
Ojaamong retained the county boss seat on an ODM after garnering 135,153 against his bitter rival Paul Otuoma’s 125,905 votes.
