Governor behind bars

Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong is set to spend two nights behind bars following his arrest on Wednesday morning.

Mr Ojaamong will be remanded alongside his three cabinet members at the Ethic Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) police station until Friday 2 PM, when the court will rule on their bond application.
The four were arraigned at Milimani Court where they denied seven counts of fraud.
The Governor and his cabinet members are accused of flouting procurement procedures in Busia County.
EACC detectives apprehended Ojaamong at Integrity Centre on Wednesday where he had gone to turn himself in.

The arrest came a day after Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji stated that Ojaamng and nine other county officials should be prosecuted over irregular acquisition of integrated solid waste management services.
