Uhuru issues 8 tough directives to police bosses

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday issued eight stern directives to top security officials urging them to take up active roles in their mandate.

Speaking from Mombasa, President Kenyatta lauded the multi-agency approach spearheaded by Interior CS Fred Matiang'i and Inspector General Joseph Boinnet.

"First, all Government agencies and departments, must subscribe to the One-Government Approach policy.

"I will require all Ministries, departments and semi-autonomous agencies, to embrace the same multi-agency approach under the National Security Council, which is being pioneered with significant success," the president stated.

Lead from the Front

President Kenyatta also scolded the officers over an apparent back-seat approach to development within their jurisdictions.

"I expect you to be the lead officers, of the National Government development agenda, in your jurisdiction.

"Regional Commissioners, will chair the Regional Development Implementation Committee, while County Commissioners will chair, the County Development Implementation Committee. You will be provided with clear guidelines on standards, procedures and reporting requirements," he stated.

The president directed the police bosses to take up the fight against corruption and protect public resources as if they were their own.

He also announced the introduction of a Huduma Namba which will be a unique identifier for all citizens and foreigners living in Kenya.

The fifth directive involves the reactivation of County Environment Committees.

Uhuru also reminded the security officials to oversee the 100% transition of pupils from primary school into secondary school.

"Seventh, I expect the County Commissioners to ensure that every county has launched and is implementing a 'County Action Plan for the Prevention and Countering of Violent Extremism'," the president directed.

President Kenyatta concluded by ordering the security bosses to ensure that they provide ample security for projects initiated under the Big Four Agenda.
