Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i on Monday revealed that twenty thousand police officers had been biometrically registered in regards to the digitisation programme.

Matiang’i stated that the officers needed to work hand in hand with the public as part of the new modernization of the National Police Service.

"You have to realise that policing has changed. Crimes have become sophisticated so it is challenging to fight them. We have to think differently in the fight against crime.

"Most of the community-based organisations, faith-based organisations and other entities have ideas and understand communities better than police so we have to work with them," remarked the Interior CS.

The CS further pointed out that the ICT ministry that is led by CS Joe Mucheru, was helping NPS to fully modernize the unit.

Matiang'i launches new police system

This comes three weeks after Matiang’i officially launched the process to completely automate police systems.

The once Education CS, had unveiled the Digital Human Resource Information System which also incorporates administrative procedures, the Occurrence Book (OB) and the Crime Management System.

According to the tough talking CS, the new system had enabled easier selection and recruitment of police officers.

He had affirmed that it would also improve the management, deployment, performance appraisals, merit-based promotions, and transparent transfers of the law enforcers.
