We can 'donate' Raila to UK - DP Ruto's latest statement sparks a storm

Deputy President William Ruto has sparked a fresh storm after he suggested that former Prime Minister Raila Odinga could be offered to replace UK PM Theresa May.

The remarks made during the 17th National Prayer Breakfast held on Thursday has elicited harsh remarks from ODM luminaries chief among them, Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna.

"Dr Ruto's conduct has raised questions about the genuineness of the annual spectacle and sincerity of Kenyan leaders," Sifuna protested.

DP Ruto wants to get rid of Raila

During the event, DP Ruto suggested: "And because you [Dr Michael Hastings] have been good to us, your request for a PM, we have a retired one and since our Constitution has abolished the position, we shall send you his CV for your consideration.

"In any case, we've had leaders from UK who have helped govern Kenya in the past," he noted.

The DP was responding to an earlier statement by Dr Hastings who addressed the attendees and quipped: "We're having a bit of political turbulence back home and we were just wondering if you have a spare Prime Minister around you could...genuinely, all offers are gratefully received, British Airways will be happy to take you..."

This is in line with the anticipated resignation of PM May on June 7 following an impasse on Brexit.

On his Twitter handle, Sifuna further stated: "How about DP Ruto first deals with the CVs of the millions of jobless youth we have in our country. He promised millions of jobs in Jubilee's first term and even more in the second but he appears only keen on RAO's CV."

Siaya Senator James Orengo added: "Dr Ruto should remember that at the time he was looking after his father's cows, others were in prison to make Kenya what it is today."

President Uhuru Kenyatta also added his voice to the debate saying that he had a few more politicians on his mind that he would have liked to donate.

"You have been given an offer for one person… I have more people, I can donate to you for the next 3 years for me to have peace," he stated.
