Police boss suffers consequences for failing to arrest Governor

Nandi County Police Commander Thomas Ngeiywo has been transferred after officers failed to take action against Governor Stephen Sang when he invaded a tea estate.

Mr Ngeiywo was recalled to Nairobi before his replacement was confirmed on Tuesday.

Mr Samuel ole Kine, who had been redeployed from Trans Nzoia, will not take over as the new Nandi County Police Commander.

He had served in a similar position before he was transferred.

Summoned to Vigilance House

The police commander had been summoned to Vigilance House last week following the incident which saw the tea estate linked to former Minister Henry Kosgei trespassed.

Nandi governor had led hundreds of residents to trespass Kibwari Tea Estate where they excavated tea bushes on a disputed section.

Officers posted to the estate failed to take any action against governor Sang.

Later on, the governor was arrested and charged before Kisumu Senior Resident Magistrate Beryl Omollo for malicious damage to property, incitement to violence and abuse of office.

He denied the charges and was released on a Ksh1 million bond or alternative Ksh500,000 cash bail.
