Sonko invited to speak at international event in London

Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko will speak at the AIDSfree Cities Global Forum that will be hosted in London on January 30.

A letter seen by Pulselive.co.ke indicates that Governor Sonko will be showcasing the progress made in Nairobi in the fight against HIV/AIDS and reiterating the commitment to carry out further action against the disease.

"Your ongoing leadership in this area is vital and I hope that you might be available to attend and speak at the Forum to demonstrate Nairobi's continued commitment," the letter from British High Commissioner to Kenya Nic Hailey read in part.

Governor Sonko will be accompanied by National Aids Control Council of Kenya CEO Dr Nduku Kilonzo.

Sonko among 6 City Bosses chosen

Governor Sonko will be among the six city bosses invited to address the international forum.

The other five to address the gathering will be Delhi Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal (India), Kiev Governor Oleksandr Horhan (Ukraine), Atlanta Georgia Governor Nathan Deal (US), a representative from Mozambique's Maputo capital and London Mayor Sadiq Khan.

The event will be hosted by London's Evening Standard newspaper in partnership with the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

"A gala drinks reception will also be held at the House of Lords on 29th January," the letter read in part.

During the 2018 inaugural Blue Economy Conference, Governor Sonko surprised residents of Nairobi with a forced American accent.

He would later explain that, "We have to twang when welcoming members of the international community."
