Obado's gov't gives interesting explanation over missing Sh1.5 billion

Migori County Governor Obado’s government stated that a fire incident burnt down the procurement store that contained expenditure receipts worth Sh1.5 billion.

The information comes after Auditor General Ouko revealed that the money used for the financial year ending June 2018 could not be traced as there was no hard copy to show the expenditure.

“The expenditure could not be vouched for due to lack of relevant documents and financial records which allegedly got burnt during the fire outbreak leading to limitation of scope,” remarked Ouko.

According to the county government, the store contained tender documents, work tickets, payment vouchers, payment cashbooks and bank statements, all of which got destroyed in the incident.

Obado facing corruption charges

In a different case, Governor Obado is facing corruption charges over the loss of county finances worth Sh2 billion.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission had pointed out that the money had been stolen in a scheme that involved the governor and six members of one family.

EACC investigator Anne Murigih had indicated that the six members of one family had registered fraudulent companies in 2014 and opened bank accounts for the companies.
