KNUT on Thursday announced that they rejoined COTU after a 53-year separation.

William Sossion who is the Secretary General, stated that the decision to rejoin the body led by Francis Atwoli, was made last year.

The teacher’s union boss explained that the move was agreed during a delegates meeting.

The move sees 312,000 teachers join the umbrella body that represents workers in the country.

Sossion, who is a Nominated Member of Parliament, pointed out that the shift will unite all workers.

"We will fight for the rights of workers in this country," remarked Sossion.

The politician further assured employers and the government they had nothing to fear from the partnership made.

KNUT leaves TUC

This is comes as a huge blow to Trade Union Congress of Kenya (TUC-ke) after KNUT had pulled out of the organisation in 2018.

The body through a letter to TUC-ke, had withdrawn 200,000 teachers and claimed that the reason behind the decision was due to various labour issues.

“We herein notify you that as a consequence of the correspondences which are in bad faith among other unprocedural practices that you have engaged in, Knut shall immediately cease to engage with the labour centre,” read a part of the letter.

In July, Sossion had been suspended by Deputy Secretary General Charles Mukhwaya over claims of misconduct.
