KPLC to shut down prepaid token system on these days

Kenya Power and Lighting Company on Friday announced that it will shut down the prepaid token system on Tuesday and Wednesday next week.

Through a statement issued, the power company stated that access to the system would be temporarily halted on Tuesday 9 April from 11pm to Wednesday 10 April 6pm.

“This is to enable migration of data to a new hardware for improved service delivery,” read a part of the statement.

The firm noted that customers would not be able to purchase tokens through the prepaid paybill number, in the banking halls and any other vending channels.

Consumers have thus been advised to get the tokens earlier in order to avoid any disruptions.

Token system shutdown for two nights

In November 2018, the power authorities had taken the system offline for two nights for a routine maintenance.

The maintenance had been termed necessary to enhance efficiency and improve service delivery.

In the same month, the system had been shutdown to facilitate the implementation of new electricity tariffs after the Energy Regulatory Authority had reduced the power tariffs for domestic and small commercial consumers by Sh2 and Sh5 respectively.
