The three were in a group of five who were trying to cross the flooding river in Kiambere, Embu County.

Confirming the unfortunate ordeal, Mr Leonard Mwaniki, an MCA in the country, said two other girls were rescued by members of public and taken to Embu Level Five Hospital.

Mr Mwaniki called on school administrators not to allow children to go home when it is raining.

He also appealed to parents to escort pupils to school and collect them from the learning institutions during this rainy period to avoid such tragedies.

The death of three brings the death toll to over ten, of people who have perished in the nearly one-week long downpour. The weatherman last week said the country should expect floods in the onset of rains.
