Ugly scenes as rivals clash

Political rivalry between Jubilee and ODM politicians in Sirisia resulted in drama at a funeral in Sirisia leaving flamboyant ODM politician Moses Nandalwe-popularly known as "Mr Money Bags" nursing injuries.

Trouble started when a section of mourners believed to be area MP John Weluke’s supporters attempted to block Nandalwe from accessing the funeral venue.

A commotion ensued with the MP watching as Nandalwe’s entourage forced their way into the venue where the funeral service for three siblings who lost their lives in a road accident on 24 December was ongoing.

During the commotion, Nandalwe sustained injuries after he was hit in the face by a rival team.

His trademark fly whisk and walking stick were snatched and broken during the commotion that saw administration police officers move in swiftly to contain the situation.

The politician who lost the Sirisia parliamentary seat to Jubilee’s John Weluke eventually took up his seat but did not get a chance to address the mourners as only elected leaders were allowed to do so.

Speakers at the event that was attended by Bumula MP Mwambu Mabonga, Bungoma Woman Representative Catherine Wambilianga and former Kwanza MP Noah Wekesa condemned the incident and appealed for tolerance.

Controversial Mr. Money Bags

Nandalwe shot into the limelight after being linked to a group of youths who blocked DP Ruto’s convoy during the 2017 campaigns, burning tyres and anti-Jubilee party slogans.

A month ago, rival groups clashed after he forcefully made his way into the venue of a botched harambee, leaving several people in hospital.

Police faulted Nandalwe for the chaos, maintaining that he did not notify the police as is required by law.

"He ought to have told us earlier of the planned meeting," Police stated.

The politician however put the blame on his rivals, accusing the police of being used by his rivals.

"The politician didn't want the funds drive to happen. He is afraid of my growing popularity," he said.
