Is Netflix's New Series White Lines Getting a Season 2?
White Lines stars Laura Haddock (Guardians of the Galaxy) as Zoe Walker, who travels to the Spanish island of Ibiza, where her brother Axel (Tom Rhys Harries) has been recently found dead. Axel went missing on the island 20 years before, when Ibiza was at the height of its popularity as a destination for partygoers in search of the ultimate drug-fueled rave. The 10 episodes of the first season flip between the late '90s and the present day as Zoe gets closer to solving the mystery of her brother's disappearance.
In order to create as much of a sense of realism as possible, the show consists of both English and Spanish dialogue, with the Ibiza characters speaking in local dialects a creative choice which Harries says was inspired by another Netflix series, Narcos.
Netflix has yet to announce whether White Lines will be renewed for a second season, but if it is, Harries and Pina already have plenty of ideas about where to take the show next. Harries recently told Deadline that there is a three-season arc planned out, should Netflix decide to invest more in this story.
It surely won't hurt that their previous respective shows have been such huge success stories for the streaming platform; the fourth season of Money Heist dropped last month, while a fourth season of The Crown is currently in the works (a great many Netflix shows aren't renewed beyond season three).
"I dont think I ever would have thought that this would be possible without a global streamer," said Harries. "Thats whats changing in television, the ability to cross continents and make shows that are genuinely localized, but have great themes for a global audience."
