Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i on Monday made a deal with Senators after holding a closed door meeting with the Senate Liaison Committee.

Dr Matiang'i held the deliberations in his capacity as the National Development Implementation and Communication Cabinet Committee.

The meeting that was chaired by Speaker Ken Lusaka resolved to launch collaborative efforts between the two arms of government.

"We agreed to deepen cooperation between institutions to ensure timely and cost effective delivery of government projects," Speaker Lusaka announced moments after the meeting.

CS Matiang'i impressed with Senators

On his part, Dr Matiang'i was impressed with how senators conducted the meeting and appreciated their cooperation.

"They have been forthcoming, forthright and very candid about the challenges we face. They have pointed out to us the things we need to do together to move the implementation of government projects forward," CS Matiang'i noted.

Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho also appeared before the Senate Devolution Committee to clarify on why he threatened to dissolve the Mombasa County Assembly.

He noted: "I can tell you that we are not in a position to respond to hearsay. The assembly should have brought evidence to you."
