Worrying developments that forced Chebukati to suspend Saturday election

IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati on Friday evening suspended the repeat presidential election that was supposed to take place in four counties in the Nyanza region.

Chebukati made the announcement at the Bomas National Tallying Centre where he added that the security situation in the affected regions had continued to deteriorate.

Specifically, the IEBC Chairman stated that his commission was forced to make the postponement decision after learning that some of its staff was attacked, kidnapped, and tortured by unknown groups of  youth.

The affected constituencies are in Migori, Siaya, Homa Bay and Kisumu counties.

Other constituencies from Garissa and Turkana counties will proceed with the repeat presidential election on Saturday.
