The legislator was accused of misappropriating funds that were raised by Deputy President William Ruto during Sunday fundraiser in Kakamega last week.

Through his personal assistant George Nyongesa, Murunga denied the claims saying that not more than Sh4 million was raised at the event.

DP Ruto Gave Only Sh2 Million

"We wonder why someone would lie about such details and spread such petty propaganda.

"The DP gave Sh2 million, President Uhuru gave Sh1 million and others gave collectively Sh300,000 at the venue," the PA told Pulse Live.

Nyongesa explained that the MP did not handle any of the funds raised because the event was organised by a women's group.

"The money is in the account of the women's group which has elected signatories from among themselves.

"Whatever the women agree on will be how they spend the money since the MP is not in control of the group," Nyongesa explained.

The PA further explained that the legislator only acte as a go-between in extending the invitation to the DP, after that he only intends to facilitate training for the women according to their combined goals.
