Through his twitter handle on Wednesday, Joho said that the act was a way to enable the victims joins their loved ones in the New Year celebrations, which is five days away.

“About 50 patients went home to join their families in the New Year celebrations. Consequently over KSh. 2,000,000 worth of medical bills was written off,” Mr Joho wrote on Wednesday.

In his subsequent tweets, Joho justified the expenditure, adding that it was in line with the County’s need to serve the people of Mombasa.

“This is in line with my Government’s commitment to prioritize the health of its citizens. The County Government of Mombasa will continue to equip the hospital and all other medical facilities to ensure convenient access to quality healthcare for all,” he said.
