FBI arrests 3 Kenyan-Americans linked to ISIS terrorist group

The FBI arrested three American citizens who were born in Kenya on terrorism charges.

Muse Abdikadir Muse, 23, his brother Mohamud Abdikadir Muse, 20, and another relative, 26-year-old Mohamed Salat Haji, were all charged with conspiring to provide material support to a terrorist organization.

Reports indicated that Abdikadir Muse was arrested at the airport in Michigan as he was leaving for Mogadishu, Somalia.

Joining ISIS

Haji and Mohamud are said to have helped in purchasing of the ticket and drove Abdikadir to the Grand Rapids airport.

The two were also accused of having done this with the full knowledge of what Abdikadir's mission to join and fight for ISIS. 

Videos that were confiscated showed the three pledging allegiance to ISIS terror group, which has been involved in numerous attacks.

Planning attacks

According to the prosecutors, Muse Muse and Haji allegedly discussed their desire to join ISIS, to kill non-believers.

Prosecutors further said that the men might have also planned to "use a car for a martyrdom operation to run down non-believers in the United States if they could not travel overseas to fight for ISIS".

Investigators first began looking at the three men in April 2016 because of public posts on Facebook. In later months, undercover agents also communicated with the men via Facebook.
