Rastafarian student and father on Thursday heaved a sigh of relief after Education CS Amina Mohamed intervened in the matter following the petition filed by the parent in court.

Amina stated that the student should go back to school with her hairstyle.

“Allow Rastafarian girl back to school with her dreadlocks,” stated Amina.

The directive by the CS comes three days after the father took Olympic High school to court for refusing to admit his daughter as a result of her dread-locked hair.

The man, who is a resident of Kibra, had also sued the Ministry of Education on the basis of religious discrimination.

Article 30 (1) of the constitution states that, “Every person has the right, either individually or in community with others, in public or in private, to manifest any religion or belief through worship, practice, teaching or observance, including observance of a day of worship,”

All fifty form one students fail to report to school

Last Friday, it was revealed that all fifty Form One students had failed to report to Arabia Girls Secondary school in Mandera County during day of admission.

Mr Issa Yarrow, who is the school principal, stated that the school had prepared to receive students who came as far as from Kilifi County and Kibra in Nairobi.

The principal had explained that the students never reported to school despite a section of them having picked their admission letters.

According to Yarrow, only 55 students had reported to school this year in an institution whose capacity was 180 students.
