DCI rescues 25 female Burundians in Kiambu house

Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives have rescued 25 female hostages of Burundian nationality who were being held in a house in Gwa Kairu Area, Kiambu County.

According to DCI, the women were being held as their captors planned to traffic them to various countries in Asia.

Detectives identified the owner of the house as one Mr Nicholas Mugambi Waigwa.

They further disclosed that Mr Mugambi may have been working together with other suspects who were arrested.

Three ladies, Mercy Kaaia, Lydia Wairimu and Susan Nyambura Nganga, have been identified as the suspects believed to be running the human trafficking ring.

Detectives working on a tip-off

Detectives from the Transnational Organized Crime unit raided the home after they were tipped off about the activities at the house.

"The victims-all aged between 24 years and 33 years-were being held hostage at the said home in Gwa-Kairu area in Kiambu County pending transit to Asian countries," a statement from the DCI disclosed.
