Nairobi patient awarded Sh44 million after botched brain surgery

The High Court on Wednesday awarded a patient Sh44 million after a botched brain surgery at Nairobi Hospital.

The court ruled that Nairobi Hospital and Anesthetist Dr Praxedes Mandu Okutuyi would bear the compensation costs.

Judge George Odunga stated that the parents of the boy would also receive a compensation of Sh1 million.

The parents had sued the hospital after the brain operation went wrong 14 years ago.

The boy at the time of the incident was a form four student at St. Mary’s High School.

Wanza dies from botched breast surgery

In February last year, the hospital had been roped into a botched breast surgery that resulted in the death of June Wanza.

Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board had ordered the hospital to provide a report that resulted to the death of the lady.

Wanza had undergone an operation to enlarge her breasts at a clinic and later developed complications.

Doctors had tried to save her life after they realized that her blood pressure was running low after they found out that her intestines had been cut or punctured during the process.
