Be careful, these are dangerous times

The Ministry of Health on Wednesday released a list of four counties that have been marked as cholera hotspots in the country.

Making the announcement, Health Cabinet Secretary Cleopa Mailu stated that the ministry had established that Nairobi, Machakos, Garissa and Kisumu were high risk areas of contracting cholera.

Mr. Mailu disclosed that there were more than 100 cases of cholera have been reported since the outbreak in April.

The minister added that Kenya had sought help from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and Kenya Red Cross in a bid to curb the spread.

Mailu added that the National Government was working closely with the county Government to ensure that the spread of the killer disease was controlled.

Apart from this, the CS has ordered the closure of several restaurants across the country.

On Wednesday, Machakos County closed 17 restaurants over failure to meet health standards.

Confirming the reports, District Health Public Officer Zachary Ochonka mentioned that: "There is no single cholera case in Machakos but we are putting adequate measures to ensure our people are safe”.

Last week CS Mailu directed the closure of two top Nairobi hotel; Jacaranda and San Valencia.
