Speaking during a meeting with Matatu Owners Association at City Hall, the Governor stated that the implementation will be postponed for one month.

Mr. Sonko mentioned that this will be in a bid to allow the matatu operators to regulate the industry on their own.

He noted that if this fails, the gazette notice will then take effect.

At the same time, Governor Sonko directed that matatus will be not be allowed to double park, hoot carelessly, play loud music or obstruct other users while in the City.

He noted that owners will be held responsibleif matatus are found breaking any of the traffic laws.

This comes as a relief to many Nairobians who had complained after the Governor announced that the Gazette notice would take effect on Wednesday 20th September 2017.
