The MCAs were divided between those who were pro-Jubilee and those supporting Ruto’s Chama Cha Mashinani Party.

The MCAs had adjourned house proceedings to discuss the recent unrest by residents who have been paralysing businesses across Bomet following Governor Ruto’s attack by police on Sunday that left him nursing injuries to his face.

The residents protested across five sub-counties including Chepalungu, Konoin and Sotik blaming the police for use of excessive force at a public event and demanded for the immediate removal of County Commissioner Bernard Leparmarai who they blamed for the incident that occurred at Silbwet Stadium.

Ndarawetta MCA Josphat Kirui filed a motion of urgency, saying rising political tensions in the county if unchecked will degenerate into anarchy.

The house session degenerated into a shouting match by the two rival groups as they exchanged bitter words.

Those allied to Ruto disrupted the proceedings by storming out of the chambers accusing the House Speaker of favouritism.

They claimed the speaker allocated more time for Jubilee MCA’s to contribute to the debate as compared to them.

The Jubilee MCAs said that Ruto was to blame for the chaos and accused him of frequently disrupting his opponents’ rallies.

They said the governor should have followed the proper channels to address the allegations that his supporters were the one who disrupted the public event at the stadium.

However, the Chama Cha Mashinani allied MCAs rubbished the claims and accused police of taking political sides.

They said that police officers only provide security to Jubilee political rallies and ignore other parties.
