Apart from the Akasha brothers here are 5 of the world's most famous extraditions (Photos)

Today we came to learn that the four had been extradited to the U.S.A after 3 years of fighting extradition due to their alleged involvement in the illegal drug trade.

The four were last evening charged in the Southern District Magistrate’s Court in Manhattan, New York for smuggling drugs globally and were described as 'one of the most dangerous global drug traffickers.'

Apart from the brothers here are some of the world most famous extraditions

1. Abu Hamza-Al Yasir

Known for his hook, Muslim cleric Abu Hamza-Al Yasir was extradited to the U.S.A from the U.K in 2012.The radical Muslim cleric faced 11 criminal counts for abetting terrorism.

Among other things the Jihadist was accused of aiding kidnappers in taking hostages in Yemen in 1998, trying to set up a terrorist training camp in rural Oregon (United States) and sending support to aid terrorists in Afghanistan.

He was found guilty of all charges and sent to life in prison.

2. Joaquín Archivaldo Guzmán Loera aka El-Chapo

The famous Mexican drug lord headed the Sinaloa Cartel before his downfall.  The famous drug lord is also known as a Houdini of sorts due to his spectacular escapes from Mexican prisons.

He was extradited in January 19 this year  to the U.S.A and just like the Akasha brothers, his extradition came without warning. Currently he is in solitary confinement at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan New York awaiting trial.

3. Viktor Bout

It is said that the Russian native was the inspiration behind Nicholas Cage's movie “Lord of War”.

The real life Lord of war was said to have provided arms to Charles Taylor- the Liberian dictator, Congolese warlord Jean-Pierre Bemba and was caught trying to sell weapons to Colombian rebel group FARC (Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia ).

He was extradited from Thailand in 2010 and was sentenced to 25 years for conspiring to kill Americans due to his deals with FARC, an organization that was said to ‘hunt down Americans’.

In addition he was sentenced for “acquiring and exporting anti-aircraft missiles and providing material support to a terrorist organization.”

4. Dr. Aafia Siddiqui

The Karachi born Neuroscientist was arrested in Ghazni Afghanistan in 2008 after she was suspected of being a suicide bomber. During an interrogation, Siddiqui is said to have snatched a rifle from one of the army officers and tried to shoot them but ended up getting shot in the abdomen after a struggle ensued.

After getting shot, she was taken into surgery where doctors tried finding bullets in her body. She was later transferred to prison in the United States and was convicted to 86 years in prison for the attempted murder

5. Slobodan Milošević

The former Yugoslavian leader was sent to The Hague in 2001 for crimes against humanity after being handed over to ICC tribunal investigators at Belgrade, Serbia.

He was accused of killing and expelling Albanians from the Serbian province of Kosovo after the breakup of Yugoslavia in the early 1990’s.

While in jail, he suffered from a heart attack a few days away from his verdict and died. Milošević is said to have been the first former head of state to face trial for war crimes.
