The Ghana captain confirmed his ordeal while expressing solidarity with his compatriot Sulley Muntari, who suffered racial abuse in the Italian Serie A last week.

Pescara's Muntari walked off the pitch during a game against Cagliari, having been booked by referee Daniele Minelli between for complaining about monkey chants from fans.

The 31-year-old Gyan tweeted in support [SIC]: "I have been a victim when I was playing in Italy. I'm 100% behind you bro."

Gyan currently plays at United Arab Emirates side Al Ahli, on loan from Chinese club Shanghai SIPG.

Between 2003 and 2008, he spent five seasons in the Italian Serie A - four at Udinese and one at Modena on loan.
